Rihanna became the first black woman to lead a luxury fashion house in Paris when LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the world’s largest luxury group, in May announced that her clothing brand, Fenty, would join its family.
That makes Rihanna the first woman to create an original brand for the French conglomerate, and also the first woman of color to head an LVMH house.
Still, a lack of diversity in the fashion world remains an issue, according to the Council of Fashion Designers of America which in January released the results of a survey that found 41% of respondents rated their fashion company 3 out of 5 on in-house diversity at their company.
